My Valentine Corner

I really need a different vase for the daisies, but I think I have already spent my allowance on this project. Its pretty simple but I think it adds a little holiday flare to the room. I also have a valentine pillow I stitched, thanks for teaching me Em. Feel free to give ideas for St. Pattys day. I need ideas that will go with my brown, black and maroon front room.

Things you didn't want to know.

My friend Jenny tagged me so here are some random facts about me.

1. When I was born I was a few days late and must have really needed to go to the bathroom because I poohed inside my mom. When I was three weeks old I contracted pneumonia from aspirating on that pooh. The doctors told my mom that I would most likely have a lot of lung problems mostly being susceptible to pneumonia, coughs possible asthema etc. My mom and I think they had no idea what they were talking about because I have not had problems and I participated in several sports that required good use of your lungs.

2. I was a total nerd in high school and most of my college life. I mean nerd as in bad hair, bad teeth, poor use of make-up, prefering to read books at home on a saturday night, good grades etc etc. It wasn't until my junior year of college that I really started understanding how to "get ready" and even now I am sure that some of friends wish I would let them help me. I would also have to say that I beat Jenny in the studied too much in college category. I was the one calling and begging Jenny to ditch the friends and parties to study with me in the Library.

3. (HERE IS MY FOOT STORY) Two years ago I was walking-running up my moms stairs when a sharp pain went through my foot. The next day it was completely black and blue and hurt really bad. I had it x-rayed and they said it was fine. This last month I have been having similiar pains but on a smaller scale. I get them at random times i.e. trying on new shoes, mopping the kitchen floor, playing basketball, walking, etc. My foot is also slightly swollen and radiates a dull pain all day long. However, I have refused to spend good money on a doctor telling me I am weird. My mom thinks my foot problems may be a sign of diabetes. Anyone like to weigh in on that?

4. Since marrying Justin I have come to know a lot of information about horses. Such as a pregnant mare can absorb her baby in the early stages of the pregnancy. We found this out when my father-in-law took his pregnant mare in to get her checked only weeks after we were first told she was pregnant. I was also fortunate enough to witness horses mating this spring. I thought the breeder was going to wait until we left, but nope here comes the boy and they are ready to go at a moments notice. I was so embarressed I started muttering something about not seeing a particular horse on the property before as I turned my head and shut my eyes.

5. I really do not like Limbo. I hated wondering what University I should attend. I hated applying for jobs after graduation, I was horrible at staying on a "break" with Justin and I hate deciding if we should move out of the in-laws basement or stay. This time we are in limbo as Justin figures out what univeristy to transfer to. UofU or UVU. Hopefully this too will pass and we can all move on with our lives. Wish us luck.

6. I have this new found desire to be crafty. I am going to craft stores constantly and looking for cheap but gorgeous items I can make or buy. Justin now works until after eight every night and I am so bored waiting for him to come home. I keep looking at our "bare" walls and lack of decorations wanting to improve the situation. My latest idea was starting a holiday table on my small corner table in my front room. I will post pictures soon. I am also obsessed with organizing my scrapbook stuff or wanting to organize it but not so much using it at this point.

What me competitive?

Tonight was the first night of women's church basketball. I went to support the team, but I was not going to play due to a hurt foot and ankle. (long story don't ask) We ended up having eleven women show up counting me so I told them I didn't want to play unless they really needed me. We started off pretty good but it was definately rough in there. I was enjoying just rooting for the team and talking to the others on the bench until the second quarter. We started losing and our best players were getting fouls called on them like crazy. My competitive nature kicked in and I told them I wanted to play in the third quarter. I am actually one of the tallest girls so I played post. It was good to play again even though I am really rusty and my foot hurt more after I played. However, by the end of the quarter we were winning again and I had to confess to the team that I played in high school. It turns out that I am the only one in my ward that played in high school so now they want me to coach them. AHHHH. The biggest problem with that is that they practice monday mornings at 5:30. Are you kidding me I am asleep at 5:30. Maybe I should send my little sister is has only been two years since she played high school ball she would be the better coach.

D.C.

I was fortunate enough to go to D.C. this last week for work. (I say fortunate because it didn't come out of my conference money meaning I can go somewhere else fun this year) The conference I attended was on bilingualism and redirecting our thinking. New research has come out stating that a child learning two languages is in no more danger of a language delay than a child learning one language. (what do you think fellow SLP's any comments?) The information that was presented was okay a lot of it was info I learned in undergrad such as metalinguistics and phonemic awareness and phonology etc. So needless to say the best part of the trip for me was sight seeing. I had never been to D.C. and I wanted to get it all in. I was attending the conference with a co-worker Gaby who is originally from Mexico. She says it is part of her culture to be so bubbly all the time and to talk non-stop. I am not that person and after walking all over D.C. from 8 am to 8 pm I needed that bubbly personality to keep me going. We were able to see all the monuments, the Holocaust Museum, the White House, the Capitol, the Air and Space Museum, the Portrait Museum and the American Indian Museum, China Town and the D.C. Temple. Here is how I rank each place.

Most Depressing: Holocaust Museum
Biggest Displays: Air and Space
Most Beautiful: D.C. Temple
Least Amount of time spent in: Portrait Museum (I am so not artsy!)
Most Disappointing: Chinatown (What only restaurants no cute purse boutiques?)
Tallest: Washington Monument (the view from 500 ft is incredible)
Haunting: Korean War (Those soldier statues are kind of creepy)
Left and Impact: American Indian (since the conference was on bilingualism and culture)
Not very impressive: White House, it really is just a white house people nothing special.
Adventure of the trip: Figuring out the metro to get to the Temple

That is not all the places just a quick glance at my trip. I took more pictures with Gaby's camera than mine, hers is really nice, so I will be posting some pics later.

A little bit of Christmas

This is the best Christmas picture of Justin and I. It is posed which is why I am not making any weird faces as I unwrap presents and talk to people about them.

Christmas Recap

1. Christmas was extended to three days to accommodate all the family situations.

2. We received three of the same present. So much for giving out the same list to everyone even though it had at least 30 present ideas on it. Next year separate lists.

3. Holiday Birth control. Nine nieces and nephews hopped up on holiday candy running around screaming.

4. Two weeks of no work and the freedom to do nothing but read the Twlight Series. P.S. Justin read them faster than I did, he says that he skimmed the mushy parts.

5. we ate way too much junk food and I probably gained about 15 lbs. I love chocolate.

6. A commitment to work out more after realizing how much chocolate I ate. I promise I am going to start soon!

7. Caving on the four month pop hiatus to have 7-up and slush. Then I accidentally had two Dr. Peppers the next week. I have since repented and gone back to the Crystal Light.

8. After Christmas sales. I decided that my sweater selection was dismal and thought I would update it. It is a good thing I have a patient husband when it comes to the money I randomly spend.

9. My husband stating that next year maybe we should go to Mexico for Christmas.

10. This year our families spoiled us. We received: a Dyson Animal, movies, games to add to the repertoire, a new IPOD screen (we can finally take it off shuffle), kitchen gadgets (I am very excited about these) Money, scrapbook Items, camping air mattress (Lake Powell here we come) and numerous other gifts that we are using and loving. I want to tell our families thank you for all you gave us, you truly spoiled us.
